Removal

| 1. To establish the car on the parking brake. |
| 2. To weaken bolts of fastening of wheels. |
| 3. To raise a forward part of the car and to establish on support. |
| 4. To remove wheels. |
| 5. To establish an additional support under a semi-axis about an antisplash cover of the external CV JOINT. |
| 6. To remove the top protective cap 4 (see fig. A forward suspension bracket) from a telescopic rack 1 from a motor compartment. |
| 7. To unscrew a nut 3, holding a rod of an amortizatorny rack by means of a shestigrannik. |
| 8. To remove a restrictive washer 2. |
| 9. To unscrew a nut of 23 fastenings of the stabilizer 5 (only on the models Golf Carat, GTI, GTO with the sports chassis and Jetta). |
| 10. Выпрессовать the spherical hinge of steering draft (see subitem 6–8 subsections 8.2). |
| 11. To remove a support of 41 brakes and to suspend it on a wire (see subsection 10.7 item 11-12). |
| 12. To lead round a contour of an arm of the 19th fastening of a telescopic rack on a rotary fist 27 for exact positioning at further installation. |
| 13. To turn off nuts 20 with fixed washers and to take out two bolts 18 with fixed washers. |
| 14. To lower the cross-section lever 15, to take out the top end of a telescopic rack 1 of an opening in a body mudguard, and then to remove a telescopic rack 1 from a rotary fist 27. |

Dismantling

| 1. To fix the bottom end of a telescopic rack in a vice. |

2. To establish the special adaptation 1 for compression of springs 2. |
| 3. To compress a spring until then, when the top cup 8 (see fig. The telescopic rack) springs 5 will freely rotate. |
| 4. To unscrew a nut 6, holding a rod 4 amortizatorny racks by means of a shestigrannik. |
| 5. To remove a support of the 7th rack. |
| 6. To remove the top cup of the 8th spring. |
| 7. To mark the top end of a spring for the correct further installation. |
| 8. To remove a spring with the special adaptation. |
| 9. To remove the compression buffer 9. |
| 10. To remove a protective casing 10. |

Check of a technical condition of an amortizatorny rack
| PERFORMANCE ORDER |
| 1. To check a condition of an amortizatorny rack, moving the piston on all length of a course. If jammings or lack of resistance throughout a piston stroke are found, and also traces of a podtekaniye of amortizatorny liquid will be visible, it is necessary to replace amortizatorny racks. |
2. To clear springs of dirt and carefully to check them. In the presence of cracks or deformation of rounds to replace a spring new. Both springs in a set are recommended to replace.
Prevention
There are eight dimensional groups of springs. It is necessary to replace springs new with the same designation and a color code.

Assembly

| 1. Assembly of a telescopic rack make as it should be, the return to dismantling. |
| 2. The spring 5 at installation should be compressed by means of the special adaptation. |
| 3. To twirl a nut the 6th moment of 40 N · m. |

Installation
Prevention
Nuts 20 (see fig. The forward suspension bracket) with fixed washers to replace with the new. If nuts with flanges earlier were established, to replace them with nuts with fixed washers together with bolts 18.

| 1. To establish an arm 19 (see fig. The forward suspension bracket) on a rotary fist 27 to enter into an opening of a mudguard of a body the top end of a telescopic rack 1 to establish bolts 18 and наживить new nuts 20. |
| 2. To establish a restrictive washer 2. |
| 3. To twirl a new nut the 3rd moment of 60 N · m. |
| 4. To establish an arm 19 on earlier made labels on a rotary fist 27 and to tighten nuts the 20th moment of 95 N · m (or the moment of 80 N · m for the nuts established till February, 1990). |
| 5. To establish a support 41 (see subsection 10.7 item 9). |
| 6. To establish the spherical hinge (see subsection 8.2 item 7). |
| 7. To twirl a nut of 23 fastenings of the stabilizer 5 (only on the models Golf Carat, GTI, GTO with the sports chassis and Jetta). |

| 9. To establish a wheel and to lower the car on the earth. |
| 10. To tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel the moment of 110 N · m. |
